Stellenbosch University (SU) welcomed Tonia Overmeyer on 1 September 2016, in the dual role of Dean of Students and Director of a newly established centre that focusses on co-curricular learning, student governance and leadership programmes, within the Division Student Affairs.

Tonia completed her undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the University of Cape Town (UCT), obtaining an MBA in 1999. She spent her early career at UCT’s Graduate School of Business, first within Corporate Services, and later within the Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, as Director of the Raymond Ackerman Academy of Entrepreneurial Development.

Her passion for leadership development inspired a move to the University of the Western Cape (UWC) to establish an academy for Student Leadership and Social Responsibility. She later acted as Director of the Centre for Student Support Services during a period of leadership transition.

The Centre for Student Leadership, Experiential Education and Citizenship (CSLEEC) is a dedicated space that serves both practitioners and students. “My current role as Director of CSLEEC allows me to work with an amazing team of student affairs professionals and student leaders that are committed to our institutional goal of a transformative student experience. When our offerings are crafted with intentionality, design and discipline, they are positioned to realise the unique learning offered by experiences throughout the student life cycle. Together, we leverage student engagement and active participation into change agency and citizenship”.
